In the Eastern Cape just
before Barkley East and surrounded by mountains and poplar trees,
there's a piece of earth called Lower Orpendale. Living here are
Johan and Dienie Steenekamp who, along with their sons, farm with
Suffolk & Dormer sheep and a little bit of cattle.
In the winter months the
popular Tiffindell Ski Resort, a stones throw away from the farm,
attracts tourists worldwide. The summer months offer
breathtaking natural beauty and a welcome break from the city hustle.
A hassle free turn from the
R58 and a love of beautiful things gave Dienie the idea to begin the
road stall and Bed & Breakfast. To increase their own income,
the farm workers became involved in this project. Hand made
products such as jams, place mats and slogan boards are made with
Dienie's help. Her ingenuity in the kitchen offers up rusks,
lasagne, bobotie, chicken pies and much more.
An old farmhouse has been
restored into a guesthouse which caters from up to 8 people.
Hunting, fishing, walking trails and 4x4 adventures are some of the
activities offered.
Come and feed your sould with
one of Dienie's slogans:
“Too much of a good thing is fantastic”
